Lebanon R-III School District
- 8 schools in the district
- 3 300+ network drops
- 5 500 users
The team would have to borrow and share tools or call for more information to complete a task.
Each tech having a LinkSprinter cuts down classroom setup time from 30 minutes to 10 minutes.
Most Valuable Feature:
Knowing the switch advertisement information and PoE voltage, which cuts down troubleshooting time.
"What used to be a tedious process of discovery trying to find the right jacks for the right endpoints every time we set up a classroom is now much simpler with each team member having a LinkSprinter that can tell them the proper information at each drop. That’s a big difference to me, and it matters to us." - Robert Barker, Enterprise Systems Coordinator, Lebanon R-III School District
The district undergoes a deep cleaning of all the classrooms in each school every summer, which requires removal of all technology equipment, such as computers, printers, and VoIP phones. Before school begins in the fall, the support staff goes through each classroom to set up the equipment again, making sure the teachers and students have everything they need to kick off the school year.
Robert also manages a complicated network setup that includes multiple VLANs dedicated to specific equipment, static IP addresses for printers, and VoIP phones throughout the district. Each year the team spends valuable time finding the right drop for each piece of equipment. They often have to borrow tools or call Robert for the switch information.
After hearing about LinkSprinter, the first tool that had all of the functionality they needed for the team at a manageable price-point, they invested in one for each of their technicians. Robert says, “Knowing if the jack is set up for PoE instantly from the LinkSprinter’s green LED and quick access to the switch advertisement information through the email it sends to your phone through the cloud service answers so many questions for us right away. It cuts down our setup time from 30 minutes per classroom to 10 minutes, which makes a big difference when you’ve got eight schools to get through.”
Before technicians received their own personal LinkSprinter, there was always some equipment that wasn’t set up correctly. Robert says, “This would slow us down,” because the technology team would have to revisit each school to troubleshoot and fix the problem. Now the team can leave the site, having confidence that they won’t need to come back to rearrange the equipment.
The technology team is also responsible for daily testing for surveillance equipment deployment and upkeep, which also requires detailed network insight. With LinkSprinter, Robert says his team can, “go to the jobsite, act on the problem, and get done without calling for help or borrowing any other tools.” Its small, portable size makes the LinkSprinter convenient for working on ladders when techs are up in the ceiling tiles with the IP security cameras. “Security has been a big initiative with the school district, and LinkSprinter helps make sure we’re up and running properly,” says Robert.
Every day, Robert has the LinkSprinter Cloud Service open in his browser, tracking the progress of the technicians. If they run into any problems, Robert has access to the test results right away and can act quickly to resolve it.
To help the technology team become more efficient, Robert says, “We plan on deploying units to leave at each school, so when we do remote support they’ll have something in hand. This will give us insight into the network through the cloud service that we can act on immediately, without having to spend time sending out a technician.” He added, “LinkSprinter is so simple to use, I don’t need to do any training. I simply tell them to plug it in and wait for the green cloud LED, and we take care of the rest.”
So whether the technology team at Lebanon R-III School District is completing major projects or maintaining their network daily, LinkSprinter goes along with each team member to ensure the job goes smoothly.
